Over the past few weeks, complete strangers -- and some coworkers -- have felt compelled to tell me taht I sound/remind them of Ellen DeGeneres. It's not a surprise really. I first heard it from Joe Krause, the founder of Excite.com, back in 1998 - or around that time.

First, a coworker called me Ellen DeGeneres - claiming he temporarily spaced on my last name. This was at the end of a happy hour so I didn't challenge this. Then, after discussing the origins of a Bruce Springsteen ticket with a toothless man in the Wachovia Center parking lot in Philadelphia, I realize there's a guy watching the whole thing. And he's staring at me as I keep walking. So of course I stared back. Then he looks at me and says, "Ellen?" And since that's my name, I of course said, "Yes?" Well to make a really short story shorter, he told me I should become an Ellen DeGeneres impersonator since I sound "exactly" like her.

And over the weekend, I'm making a purchase at Lord & Taylor and the saleswoman is looking under the counter for something for me. I continue to speak as she's searching - when suddenly she stands straight up and shakes her head. I paused, and she says, "If my eyes were closed, I'd have sworn it was Ellen DeGeneres talking."
And she wants to write to Ellen to tell her this.

So now I'm starting to think, maybe I should write Ellen about this. Because I swear I don't hear it. So why not let her audience be the judge? And seriously - given the whole dog episode, it looks like she could use some time off. Though I applaud her greatly for listening to her cats.

Who's the Patron Saint of Baseball?

Kevin was a tremendous baseball fan. And he loved October. He'd still be upset about the Yankee loss - but he appreciated the game itself so much he would have found some way to deal with the fact that the Red Sox are in it. Miss him most of all this time of year. You'd think it would be around the holidays. But not for my Kevin. Baseball was a religion to him. So it's sort of a holiday, no?

Church of Bruce

Saw Bruce Springsteen two nights in a row. Had great seats Wednesday - but the section was not filled with true fans. Had rear stage seats last night and everyone in that section was SOOO into it.

I have a greater appreciation for Candy's Room - it's my current tour favorite.

Little known fact: when I was a kid, I hated the name Ellen. It sounded so...old. So I told my Dad that I wanted to change my name. He asked what I wanted my new name to be. I said "Candy." The lawyer that he is, he then went into a very long explanation of what I would have to do to change my name. Needless to say, I dropped it.

All Bruce, All the Time

I've started the 07 Bruce parade. Hit the Philadelphia show on October 5 and am going to the shows at Madison Square Garden tonight and tomorrow. That leaves one, possibly two shows in DC in November. And I'm not a groupie - he just gives a great concert.

I'm not blogging like I used to and I can't figure out why. It's like I've gone away on a trip and only upon my return do I realize I forgot to do something essential, like feed the cat or water the planets. I look at the last date I posted and I have no idea where the time's gone. Weird.
